The Client
This insurance company has 100,000 employees, 1,000 offices across North America, and services seventy million policies, making it one of the world's largest providers of insurance and financial services. The company is involved with nearly every type of insurance for individuals and businesses.
The Engagement
Working with a large IBM services team, Encode supported the migration of three (3) production and five (5) test servers.
Critical Services Delivered
Encode provided and executed test cases to verify proper systems migration, which included developing performance metrics. We provided the primary support on the project for IBM HTTP Server technology.
Encode was able to localize the inability of the system to provide end-to-end application access via the web interface by first confirming that access through WebSphere and HTTP Server did function properly, but not via WebSEAL. We were then able to solve the problem by determining that a server routing table had been improperly set up, which we corrected and then re-installed WebSEAL.
Additionally, we wrote scripts to migrate and install multiple applications for other servers and systems.

Technology Used
The client selected the IBM HTTP Server for the following reasons: "Easy installation, support for SSL secure connections, Fast Response Cache Accelerator, IBM support as part of the WebSphere bundle, hardware crypto support, Administration Server that helps to administer and configure IHS servers, help information that uses the easy-to-navigate design that is common to all WebSphere products, IBM HTTP Server runs on AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris, Windows 2000 and Windows NT" (IBM*)

Challenges
The existing system was unable to provide end-to-end application access via a web interface. The problem was especially difficult to resolve because the client environment consisted of thousands of applications, a very large number of servers, client staff unskilled in the IBM product suite and a complex LAN/WAN environment.
