The Client
A major branch of the U.S. Defense Department, with hundreds of thousands of users, maintains an incredibly large number of offices and worksites throughout the world, which require extensive and secure computer services and high-speed communications to be available 24/7.
The Engagement
An Encode Architect was assigned to resolve an irregular yet persistent performance problem which caused dropped and broken sessions particularly when both encrypted and unencrypted data were being transmitted together.
Critical Services Delivered
Encode was able to localize the problem to the use of encrypted HTML code within a portion of the WebSphere Application Server which was related to JavaScript. Encode worked with IBM support staff and the IBM "PMR" process to have the appropriate patch created, which Encode then tested and applied. The revised software solved the problem and allowed the seamless use of both encrypted and unencrypted data across the infrastructure.

Challenges
The environment was comprised of multiple hardware and software vendors with out of sync versions. The environment lacked effective version control and new applications were constantly being deployed to the infrastructure.
